SBU captures FSB agent directing missile strikes on Ukrainian airfields

“Cyber specialists from the Security Service thwarted a series of Russian airstrikes targeting aviation infrastructure of Ukraine’s Defense Forces,"  the statement read. 

"As a result of a special operation in the Khmelnytskyi Oblast, the SBU detained an FSB agent who was collecting intelligence to direct missile strikes on Ukrainian airfields in western oblasts.”

The perpetrator was identified as a 53-year-old unemployed local resident. He came to the attention of Russian intelligence after posting pro-Kremlin comments in Telegram channels.

SBU data indicated that the agent’s primary task was to locate the runways of Ukrainian airfields in the western regions and to monitor the “flight schedule” of combat missions. Russia intended to use this data for missile attacks.

When conducting searches, authorities discovered a mobile phone containing the intelligence he had collected and a draft report he had prepared for the FSB.

“Cybersecurity experts with the SBU identified the agent early on and documented each stage of his reconnaissance activity,” the law enforcement added.

The suspect was arrested at his residence.

He has been formally charged under Part 2 of Article 111 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code — high treason committed under martial law.

The man is now in custody. If convicted, he faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
