Law enforcement stops Russian-linked terror plot: Explosives found at Dnipro railway

Investigators revealed that a 36-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman, acting under instructions from Russian intelligence, constructed an improvised explosive device in their home. Their actions were coordinated by a handler who promised them a financial reward.

On Jan. 8, the suspects placed the explosive device near a fuel tanker on one of the city’s railway platforms, intending to detonate it. However, the device was neutralized, and the perpetrators were apprehended thanks to the efforts of law enforcement.

According to the SBU, the attack was orchestrated by a drug-addicted couple from Dnipro who lived together. Seeking funds for narcotics, they reached out through certain Telegram channels, drawing the attention of FSB operatives. The agents promised them $3,000 for completing the “task.”

To avoid detection, the suspects ordered components for the explosive device online and arranged delivery to multiple addresses.

During searches, authorities seized detonators, explosive components, mobile phones, and SIM cards from the suspects.

The individuals have been charged with an attempted terrorist act committed by a group of persons acting in concert (Article 15, Part 2, and Article 258, Part 2 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code).

They are currently in custody. If found guilty, they face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
