Twelve committee members supported President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s motion to dismiss Maliuk, one abstained, and five voted against.
Zheleznyak said the full parliament is expected to vote on the issue later on Tuesday. At least 226 votes are required for the decision to pass.
On Jan. 12, the committee failed to support the president’s proposal in its first vote.
On Jan. 9, Verkhovna Rada Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk confirmed that Zelenskyy’s submission to dismiss Maliuk had been officially registered in parliament.
On Jan. 5, President Zelenskyy met with Maliuk and announced that he would step down as head of the Security Service of Ukraine.
Maliuk later confirmed his resignation but said he will remain within the SBU system to carry out what he described as “asymmetric special operations of a global level” aimed at inflicting maximum damage on Russia.
The same day, President Zelenskyy signed a decree appointing Yevhen Khmara, head of the SBU’s Alpha Special Operations Center, as acting head of the Security Service of Ukraine.
