Three scenarios for Ukraine’s future: Israel, Germany, and Korea models discussed

These approaches are to be discussed on Dec. 12, as French President Emmanuel Macron is set to visit Poland, where, according to media reports, he plans to discuss a European peacekeeping mission to ensure Ukraine's sovereignty.

The first approach is the "German model," exploring the specifics of a potential peacekeeping mission to protect Ukraine.

The German model envisions Ukraine's NATO membership even without finalizing its borders, as was the case with Germany in 1955.

"However, the U.S. does not support this, nor does Germany," the publication noted.

The second approach is the "Israeli model," which involves the massive provision of arms to Ukraine even after peace is established. However, this path is also questionable, given the budgetary challenges faced by both the U.S. and Europe.

The third option is the "Korean model," inspired by the international peacekeeping mission that has maintained the demarcation line between North and South Korea for over 70 years.

According to Camille Grand, former assistant NATO Secretary General for Defense Investments, security guarantees for Ukraine will likely be based on this third model, incorporating elements of the first two.

On Dec. 9, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy mentioned that Kyiv could consider French President Emmanuel Macron’s proposal to station Western troops in Ukraine until the country joins NATO.

"But we need clear timelines for when Ukraine will join the EU and NATO," Zelenskyy emphasized.

In November, Le Monde reported that discussions in Europe had resumed about deploying Western military forces and private defense companies to Ukraine.
