Macron made the remarks at a news conference after the summit concluded, as reported by Le Monde.
“I am organizing contact with President Putin in the coming weeks,” he said.
He added that “thousands of French soldiers could be deployed to support peace in Ukraine after a ceasefire.”
“We have shown our readiness to be deployed as part of these multinational forces,” said Macron.
“These are not combat troops; they would be reassurance forces.”
He said the United States will take the lead in monitoring compliance with any truce once the agreement is in place.
“The change brought by the Paris summit is that, for the first time, there was cooperation among the coalition, Ukrainians and Americans, and the Americans said they were ready to do so. That is what has changed in recent weeks. They will monitor the ceasefire—that is, watch for border violations,” the president added.
During the Jan. 6 Coalition of the Willing summit, Ukraine, France, and the UK signed declaration of intent on the post-war development of a Franco-British force on Ukrainian soil, serving as a deterrent against further Russian aggression.
In September 2025, Putin warned that Russia would consider foreign troops in Ukraine legitimate targets for military strikes.
