French President Emmanuel Macron has expressed a desire to continue dialogue with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Macron made this statement on the podcast Generation Do It Yourself on June 25.
The two leaders, however, have not communicated in recent months.
"I believe in the power of dialogue, and I would continue discussions with Vladimir Putin," said Macron.
When asked if the French and Russian leaders had spoken in recent months, Macron replied, "No, but I don't rule out that we might do so on various topics, particularly nuclear power plants or others."
Since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine began, Macron has spoken with Putin by phone at least 14 times. According to the French president, he has had "a hundred hours" of conversations with the Russian leader since December 2021.
