Magura V5 sea drones successfully carried out a daring operation orshestrated by Ukraine's Military Intelligence (HUR), destroying not one but two Russian Mi-8 helicopters near the temporarily occupied Crimea, the agency confirmed on Jan. 2.
For the first time in history, HUR's elite Group 13 special forces destroyed two airborne targets using rocket-equipped sea drones.
Preliminary reports indicate that the crews of the Russian helicopters were also eliminated.
"A third helicopter was damaged but managed to land," Ukrainian Intelligence added.
This achievement follows HUR's first-ever successful strike from the sea drone on one airborne target on Dec. 31 near the Crimea's Cape Tarkhankut, utilizing R-73 SeeDragon missiles. At the time, it was reported that one Mi-8 helicopter was destroyed and another was damaged.
