Russian attack sparks major fire at infrastructure facility in Kyiv Oblast

Firefighters have since extinguished the blaze.

Additional emergency crews and equipment were deployed because of the size of the fire, intense heat and heavy smoke.

Rescuers worked simultaneously in several areas and prevented the flames from spreading to other facilities, the State Emergency Service said.

Russia began another attack on Ukraine with jet-powered drones on the evening of Sept. 5, triggering air-raid alerts across eastern and southern regions.

Ukraine’s Air Force reported that a Banderol loitering munition was heading toward Kyiv Oblast.

The latest incident followed a Russian attack on Kyiv Oblast’s Bucha district on Sept. 5 that killed two people.

As of 6 p.m. that day, 28 sites across five districts of Kyiv Oblast had been damaged, including private and apartment buildings, warehouses, railway tracks, an agricultural facility and vehicles.

Kyiv Oblast authorities also reported that firefighters were continuing to battle the blaze in Fastiv district caused by the Russian attack. No casualties were reported there.
