Nineteen Shahed attack drones hit the Trypillia Thermal Power Plant (TPP) during the Sep. 8 massive Russian air assault of Ukraine, Serhiy Nahorniak, a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Energy, Housing and Utility Services, told Kyiv24 TV channel on Sep. 15.

The attack wiped out months of repair and restoration efforts at the plant.

"Just a week ago, an example showed that a large number of Shahed drones hit the Trypillia TPP. It's no secret that they weren't missiles or ballistic missiles, but rather 19 ordinary Iranian-Russian Shahed drones," he said.

"I don't have information on how many air defense systems we have in Ukraine. But if such a large number of Shahed drones can hit a thermal power plant on the eve of winter, then all the restoration work that has been going on at this station all year is essentially reduced to nothing."

The Trypillia TPP is a key energy facility in central Ukraine that supplies electricity to Kyiv, Cherkasy and Zhytomyr oblasts. On April 11, 2024, the plant was destroyed in a Russian attack, resulting in Centrenergo losing 100% of its generation capacity.

On Sep. 8, 2025, after more than a year of efforts to repair the TPP in the suburbs of Kyiv, Russian forces carried out another massive drone attack on the facility. This attack caused partial power outages in several districts of the Ukrainian capital and Kyiv Oblast.
