North Korea welcomes Russia’s Defense Minister for high-level talks

Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov arrived in North Korea for an unannounced visit, the Russian Defense Ministry wrote on Nov. 29.

Belousov is scheduled to meet with North Korea's military and military-political leadership. At Pyongyang’s Sunan Airport, he was greeted by North Korean Defense Minister No Kwang-сhol.

In November, approximately 11,000 North Korean soldiers reportedly joined Russia's war effort in Ukraine, stationed in Kursk Oblast. According to Ukrainian intelligence, these troops have been armed with standard infantry equipment, including mortars, rifles, and machine guns.

The Washington Post reported that in exchange for personnel, Kim Jong Un is set to receive funds, military technology, and increased international attention from Vladimir Putin under a partnership agreement between Russia and North Korea.

On Nov. 5, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov confirmed the first skirmish involving North Korean soldiers on the Kursk front. Bloomberg, citing sources, reported that North Korea could provide Russia with up to 100,000 troops for its war in Ukraine.

Business Insider recently noted that North Korea might be supplying its powerful Koksan artillery systems to Russia.
