Koretskyi was responding to a question about when a new CEO of Naftogaz would be appointed.
“I believe Naftogaz has one of the best corporate governance structures in place,” Koretskyi said. “It has a supervisory board, and it will directly decide the issue of future personnel changes.”
“In any case, a transparent competition will be announced in accordance with the best corporate governance practices,” he added.
Koretskyi said he would prefer the company’s new chief to be selected after the 2026-27 heating season.
“Ideally, the new head should come in after the heating season so that we can get through it steadily,” the prime minister said.
Svyrydenko reportedly considered for Naftogaz post
Earlier reports suggested that former Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko could take over Naftogaz closer to spring 2027, when the company’s supervisory board is expected to hold a competition for the position.
Ekonomichna Pravda reported, citing its sources, that the supervisory board could first appoint Svyrydenko to the Naftogaz management board and later assign her the duties of CEO.
A similar procedure was previously used to appoint Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine CEO Nataliia Boiko.
Other media reports, however, said no decision had yet been made on Svyrydenko’s possible appointment and that only Naftogaz’s supervisory board has the authority to make such a decision.
Members of the supervisory board later said reports about Svyrydenko’s candidacy had “come as a surprise.”
The Naftogaz CEO is appointed by the company’s supervisory board, which consists of seven members — four independent directors and three state representatives.
One of the state representative seats is currently vacant.
