Naftogaz chief Koretskyi eyed for Energy Minister post amid corruption fallout — Suspilne

The outlet highlighted that Koretskyi is now viewed as “the strongest figure in the sector,” and no alternative candidates are being discussed.

Koretskyi has led Naftogaz of Ukraine since May 2025, after his predecessor Oleksii Chernyshov became a National Unity Minister. Before that, Koretskyi headed Ukrnafta (2022–2025) and served as CEO of the WOG fuel chain (2013–2018).

On Nov. 12, Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko submitted to parliament motions to dismiss Justice Minister Herman Halushchenko and Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk, noting both had filed formal resignations.

On Nov. 10, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) confirmed raids as part of Operation Midas, which uncovered a large-scale corruption scheme in the energy sector involving “supervisors” exerting control over Energoatom and demanding kickbacks from contractors.

Figures named in the probe include businessman Tymur Mindich, former energy minister and now justice minister Herman Halushchenko, deputy prime minister Oleksii Chernyshov, and several Energoatom executives.

On Nov. 11, NABU announced the arrest of five suspects in the Midas case. A day later, the court ordered pretrial detention for former energy ministry adviser Ihor Myroniuk, Energoatom security director Dmytro Basov, and several “back-office” staff involved in money laundering.
