NATO to deliver new security aid packages to Ukraine amid Russian threats

The Kyiv Security Forum is Ukraine’s leading platform for dialogue on national and global security, war and peace, and was founded by former Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk’s Open Ukraine Foundation.

Turner stressed that NATO-Ukraine relations are stronger than ever, and Kyiv is now closer to the Alliance than it has ever been.

“NATO clearly supports Ukraine and will continue to do so for all the years to come," he said.

"The relationship between NATO and Ukraine today is stronger than ever. We want to work together to further strengthen them. Today, Ukraine is closer to NATO than it has ever been.”

He noted that in 2024 alone, NATO provided Ukraine with over $50 billion in security assistance.

“And in the first three months of this year, Alliance countries have pledged an additional €20 billion in military aid," he highligted.

"We will soon hear new commitments and new aid deliveries. Large-scale support will be needed in the years ahead, and we have every reason to believe it will be provided.”

Turner also added that NATO’s priorities — including those to be discussed at the upcoming summit in The Hague — are focused on defense spending, defense industry, and support for Ukraine.

The urgency of continued and expanded support was echoed by President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Marcos Perestrello, who said that Russia poses a threat to NATO member states and must be decisively countered.

“The Parliamentary Assembly has been sending signals of support to Ukraine since the very beginning," he said. 

"After our sixth visit to Kyiv since the war began, we remain unwavering in our support for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the Ukrainian people’s right to self-defense and self-determination.”

He also reaffirmed NATO’s commitment to Ukraine’s democratic path, including its right to choose its own alliances.

“We are committed to supporting democracy in Ukraine — particularly through our strong partnership with the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament)," he concluded.

"And we reaffirm Ukraine’s right to choose its own path, including membership in the European Union and NATO.”
