Photos, videos and reports describing strange objects in the sky and space have now been made publicly available, including multiple cases in which authorities openly admit they cannot determine the nature of what was observed.
Some of the released material appears relatively mundane. For example, photographs of a “strange streak of light” above the Moon, captured by astronauts, were most likely caused by optical defects or visual noise. Bright flashes reported by astronauts have been linked to high-energy cosmic rays, while fast-moving “lights” in some videos were later identified as insects flying close to camera lenses.
But another category of incidents remains far more difficult to explain.
In 2020, the United States Navy declassified footage recorded by F/A-18 pilots who encountered so-called “Tic Tac” objects. The craft appeared to maneuver in ways that defied conventional aerodynamics and showed no visible propulsion systems.
What makes those cases particularly significant is that the objects were simultaneously tracked by advanced military radar systems, making simple camera glitches or optical illusions less likely explanations.
One of the most intriguing cases involves footage captured by an MQ-9 Reaper drone and presented during congressional hearings in 2025. According to the released account, the drone fired a Hellfire missile at an unidentified object and appeared to hit it. The object briefly deviated from its course, seemingly confirming it was a physical object, but showed no visible damage and continued flying.
The newly released materials also include reports of mysterious “drone swarms” observed near military bases in the United States and Europe, where investigators could not identify any ships, launch sites or other infrastructure capable of deploying the small aerial systems.
Speculation about extraterrestrial origins remains widespread, but no direct evidence supporting the existence of alien life has emerged from the documents.
A more plausible explanation may involve advanced technologies that governments or analysts have not yet learned to properly identify. Some experts suggest the objects could be classified systems developed by allied militaries or defense contractors and tested against real-world pilots and sensors. Others point to the possibility of experimental Chinese or other foreign technologies operating close to the limits of current detection capabilities.
At the same time, skeptics argue that at least some incidents could stem from sensor malfunctions or misinterpretations of data. However, that explanation has become increasingly difficult to sustain in cases where objects were simultaneously detected by aircraft radar, naval systems and optical sensors operating across multiple frequencies.
