Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store said Norway, together with European partners, is financing U.S. military aid packages to support Ukraine’s defense effort.
“We are now supporting another important contribution. I hope more European countries will join efforts to ensure Ukraine quickly receives critically needed military equipment,” he said.
Norway has provided more than $13.4 billion to Ukraine through the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative for the procurement of U.S. weapons.
The PURL initiative was created in the summer of 2025 as a mechanism for rapidly supplying Ukraine with American weapons and technologies through voluntary contributions from NATO member states and partners.
On March 26, The Washington Post, citing sources, reported that the Pentagon was considering redirecting air defense missiles intended for Ukraine to the Middle East, as the war against Iran was depleting some U.S. military stockpiles.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte later said U.S. weapons, including air defense systems and missiles for them, would continue to be delivered to Ukraine through the NATO PURL mechanism despite the situation in the Middle East.
