The Norwegian government now plans to transfer twice as many F‑16 aircraft to Ukraine as initially announced, Ukrainian defense news outlet Militarnyi reported on June 11, citing Norway’s annual arms exports report.

The report shows that Norway will send 14 jets while officials had only announced the delivery of six. It’s unclear whether the eight additional airframes are in air-worthy condition.

Militarnyi speculated that if these aircraft are unfit for combat operations, they could be used for spare parts or as decoys.

At the same time, given the secrecy around their delivery in the first place, the F-16s may well have been repaired and refurbished before getting shipped to Ukraine.

In May, Defense Minister Tore Sandvik said Norway will deliver the final batch of pledged F-16 aircraft to Ukraine by the end of 2025.

According estimates by The War Zone, European allies have pledged roughly 85 F‑16 jets to Ukraine. Some of the fighters are being retained for pilot training, mainly at a center in Romania, while the United States has provided spare parts rather than fully operational F‑16s to support the fleet.
