Participants included members of the Latin American Alliance of Wives of Heads of State (ALMA), the Caribbean First Ladies Network (SCLAN), and the Global First Ladies Alliance (GFLA).
“The key outcome was the adoption of a Joint Statement marking the 80th anniversary of the UN," Zelenska wrote in her post on Facebook.
"First ladies and gentlemen reaffirmed their commitment to the UN Charter values — peace, human dignity, equality, and care — and announced the creation of a Global Humanitarian Coalition of First Ladies and Gentlemen to strengthen cooperation, expand the impact of soft power, and support those affected by war, crises, and inequality.”
At the event, she also presented results of a study on how students, parents, and teachers perceive education, conducted ahead of this year’s summit.
Zelenska arrived in New York with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. During the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children session, she emphasized that it could take Ukraine 50 years to bring back all the children abducted by Russia.
She also met with Melania Trump. Although U.S. media initially reported the meeting was only a brief courtesy, sources in Ukraine’s Presidential Office said it did take place. CNN noted that the two crossed paths at the UN, though Melania left quickly.
In addition, Zelenska held meetings with the Queens of Sweden and Belgium.
