Orbán accuses Poland of being 'neck-deep in war' after Russian drone incursion

Orbán said the threat of war is “immediate,” but insisted Hungary “is not taking part in it” and is “keeping its distance.”

“The incident that happened on Wednesday is the embodiment, or an example, of the dangerous conditions we live in every day,” he added.

The prime minister also boasted that Hungary “has direct contacts with the Russians, Americans, and Europeans,” noting that his foreign minister frequently consults with counterparts abroad.

According to Polish authorities, 19 Russian drones violated Poland’s airspace during overnight attacks on Ukraine on Sept. 10. Four drones were shot down, and the Interior Ministry said debris from an unidentified missile was also discovered.

One drone damaged a residential building in Wyrki-Wola, a village in Lublin Voivodeship, though no casualties were reported.

Warsaw convened an emergency government meeting and tightened security measures. NATO later invoked Article 4, which provides for consultations among member states when one faces a threat.

Polish officials believe the Russian drone incursion was deliberate.
