Russia's “provocation” was deliberate.
“Let NATO's united response and the strengthening of our capabilities make Putin understand that he made a mistake and refuse to escalate,” he said, urging the West to be prepared to respond “at every level of escalation.”
"There were nineteen violations of our airspace, several dozen identified drones, and several were shot down. The operation lasted seven hours—all night—so we cannot talk about a coincidence. This is a test not only for Poland. It's a test for the entire NATO alliance, both militarily and politically."
Warsaw is demanding not only the strengthening of the anti-drone system, but also the introduction of sanctions against Russia and increased support for Ukraine.
In his evening address to the nation, Sikorski said that Russian drones had deliberately violated the Polish airspace on Sep. 10.
Shortly after the attack, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk asked NATO to invoke Article 4 of the Alliance treaty, which provides for consultations in case of a threat to a member state.
According to Interior Ministry spokeswoman Karolina Galęcka, seven drones and missile debris were found in Poland after Russia’s overnight attack.
