Sybiha made the announcement during a joint news conference with Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen in Kyiv. He called Russia’s recent drone incursion into Poland “a new phase of Russian aggression.”
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has repeatedly stressed the importance of coordinating Ukrainian and European air-defense systems, Sybiha added, noting that cooperation with Poland is critical.
“The Ukrainian side notified our Polish partners in advance about the trajectory of these UAVs into Polish airspace,” he said.
“We expect a Polish military delegation to arrive Thursday [Sept. 18] to work with our troops. So far, only Ukraine has the necessary experience to counter such challenges.”
Sybiha noted that in Russia’s latest air strike on Ukraine, about eight hundred drones were used. He praised Ukraine’s high interception rate and described the daily combat experience gained from such attacks as “our contribution to collective security.”
“Our partners understand this; we are ready to share our experience and work together to minimize and neutralize threats to our common security space,” the minister said.
Warsaw previously said the planned Polish–Ukrainian joint exercises on countering drone threats will take place on Polish territory.
According to Polish authorities, 19 Russian drones violated Poland’s airspace during overnight attacks on Ukraine on Sept. 10. Four drones were shot down, and the Interior Ministry said debris from an unidentified missile was also discovered.
One drone damaged a residential building in Wyrki-Wola, a village in Lublin Voivodeship, though no casualties were reported.
Warsaw convened an emergency government meeting and tightened security measures. NATO later invoked Article 4, which provides for consultations among member states when one faces a threat.
Polish officials believe the Russian drone incursion was deliberate.
