Prosecutors request former Territorial Development Minister removal from office

The authorities submitted a corresponding motion to the court.

Pretrial restrictions are to be determined for Chernyshov at a hearing at the High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC), scheduled for June 27.

SAPO also said that prosecutors will request the court to impose bail in the amount of 120 million UAH (approx. $2.9 million). This request considers the fact that Chernyshov returned to Ukraine after an official trip abroad and voluntarily reported to NABU upon summons.

Should the court uphold the motion, Chernyshov will be required to post bail within five days. He will also be obligated to wear an electronic monitoring device, appear when summoned by detectives, notify authorities of any change in residence, remain within his municipality unless given permission, and surrender his foreign passport for safekeeping.

Chernyshov case

On June 23, Chernyshov was formally charged with abuse of office and accepting a particularly large bribe. He became the sixth suspect in a corruption case related to the construction sector. The accusations pertain to his tenure as Minister for Communities and Territorial Development (March 2020 – November 2022).

Investigation showed that Chernyshov could assist a developer in acquiring a plot of land in Kyiv for residential construction.

His actions are being investigated under Articles 15-2, 28-2, 364-2, and 368-4 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, carrying a potential sentence of up to 12 years in prison.

On June 25, when a hearing was originally scheduled to impose pretrial restrictions, Chernyshov requested a postponement due to a scheduled Cabinet meeting.

The court granted the request and rescheduled the session for 9:00 a.m. on June 27.
