Moscow is allegedly “waiting for signals” from the American side.

Trump-Putin meeting
On Jan. 9, 2025, Trump claimed that Putin was interested in meeting with him and that preparations for talks had already begun.
In an interview published on Jan. 10, Swiss Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nicolas Bideau confirmed that Switzerland will be willing to facilitate a meeting between the U.S. president and the Kremlin leader, provided both parties agreed.
On Jan. 12, Florida Congressman Michael Waltz, whom Trump plans to appoint as his national security advisor, revealed that preparations for the meeting were underway. Trump later emphasized on Jan. 14 that he intended to meet with Putin “very soon” after his inauguration.
On Jan. 22, Trump posted on Truth Social, warning that he would impose high tariffs and sanctions on Russian goods unless Moscow ends the war.
"Given all this, I want to do Russia, whose economy is collapsing, and President Putin a big favor," Trump wrote.
"Make a deal now and stop this senseless war! IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE. If we do not reach a ‘deal’ very soon, I will have no choice but to impose high tariffs, duties, and sanctions on everything Russia sells to the United States and other involved countries."
