Russian forces conducted a double-tap drone strike on a hotel in the center of Sumy, targeting emergency responders who arrived at the scene, local governor Oleh Hryhorov reported on Feb. 27.

The first strike hit the hotel building early in the morning.

"After the first hit, the enemy launched a repeat strike — while rescuers were already working on the site," Hryhorov wrote.

State Emergency Service (SES) units in Sumy Oblast confirmed that the strike occurred in the central part of the city. Firefighters successfully evacuated 50 citizens from the building before the second explosion occurred. Despite the repeat attack targeting the personnel, no members of the rescue teams or civilians were injured in the incident. The resulting fire has since been extinguished.

Strike in Sumy followed a series of drone attacks late on Feb. 26, in Vilnyansk, Zaporizhzhya Oblast. Four people were injured in those strikes, including one teenager.
