According to NV’s sources, the case involves Oleksandr Marikovskyi, a sitting MP from the ruling Servant of the People party.
The investigation says that in 2020, Marikovskyi declared owning cryptocurrency worth more than $889,762, which allegedly belonged to him since 2019. However, NABU and SAPO later established that the digital wallet in question had never belonged to the MP, and that the transactions for its acquisition were carried out by citizens of another state, unrelated to Marikovskyi.
Marikovskyi’s case is now headed for trial, where he faces up to two years in prison, although the law also provides for less severe punishments for the offense, including community service and substantial fines.
NABU added that U.S. authorities assisted in the investigation of the case "within the framework of international legal assistance practice."
