Russian forces launched a massive overnight drone assault on Ukraine early July 2, deploying 114 Shahed-type loitering munitions and decoy drones, along with four S-300 surface-to-air missiles, Ukraine’s Air Force reported.

Ukrainian air defenses intercepted 79 drones across northern, eastern, and southern regions. According to the Air Force, 40 drones were destroyed by air defense fire, while another 39 were neutralized or lost through electronic warfare measures.

Despite the successful interceptions, Shahed drones hit 14 different locations, and debris from downed UAVs caused damage at two additional sites, the Air Force said.

In Kharkiv and Kharkiv Oblast, three people were injured and fires broke out following a Russian drone strike overnight, the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration reported earlier on July 2.

Meanwhile, drone strikes in Odesa Oblast damaged port infrastructure, local authorities confirmed.

Russia has intensified its use of Iranian-designed Shahed drones in recent weeks, particularly targeting port cities, logistics hubs, and civilian areas across Ukraine.
