Russian forces are stepping up efforts to increase the attacks intensity and expand the number of assault groups on the Lyman axis, Donetsk Oblast, Dnipro Operational Strategic Group reported on Sept. 5.

Ukrainian troops repelled all attacks in the areas of Hrekivka, Novyi Mir, Novomykhailivka, Karpivka, Shandryholove, Torske, and in the Serebrianskyi forest.

On the Dobropillia axis, Russian troops attacked Ukrainian positions near Poltavka, Kucheriiv Yar, Shakhove, Volodymyrivka, and Rusyn Yar, but Ukrainian forces held their ground and lost no positions.

In the Pokrovsk axis, Russia launched offensives near Novoekonomichne, Myroliubivka, Dachenke, Novoukrainka, Kotlyne, and Mykolaivka. The invaders also attacked near Udachne, Novopavlivka, Molodetske, and Dachne, attempting but failing to reach the administrative border of Donetsk Oblast.

Heavy fighting is ongoing on the Novopavlivka axis, where Russian forces are concentrating efforts near Filiia, Andriivka-Klevtsove, Vorone, Novomykolaivka, and Komyshuvakha. Despite suffering losses, the enemy continues to attempt advances.

On Sept. 1, soldier and military blogger Stanislav Buniatov (callsign Osman) reported that Russian troops are approaching the city of Lyman and are already within 7 kilometers of it.

“There are no good forecasts on the Lyman axis at the moment,” he wrote, noting that Russian troops are actively working to cut off Ukrainian logistics routes, allowing them to gain ground.

Analysts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) at the same time wrote that Russian occupation forces are preparing for a fall offensive.

According to ISW, Russia will likely focus on capturing the remaining parts of Donetsk Oblast, particularly around Dobropillia, Pokrovsk, and Kostiantynivka.
