Russia launches massive drone assault on Ukraine, targets key cities

Air raid sirens sounded in Kyiv at approximately 2:00 a.m., followed by reports of drones in northern and eastern parts of the city. The alert was lifted by 2:11 a.m., but the incident underscored the continued threat posed by Russian drone strikes.

Kharkiv suffered multiple attacks, including drone strikes on residential and industrial areas. At 12:17 a.m., Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported that emergency crews rescued people from a burning building, leaving two injured. Footage released by emergency services showed extensive damage to high-rise buildings.

At 11:55 p.m., another drone strike hit Solonytsivka in Kharkiv District, sparking a fire in a non-residential building. Regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov confirmed no casualties in this attack. Earlier, a drone strike in Saltivka District damaged a nine-story residential building, destroying the first two floors. Two people were treated for acute stress reactions.

Zaporizhzhya also came under fire. Regional Governor Ivan Fedorov reported that a drone strike injured four people, including a child. Explosions caused structural damage, and emergency services responded to fires in residential areas.

Reports of drone movements highlighted the scale of the assault:

• Cherkasy and Poltava Oblasts observed drones flying south and southeast.

• Vinnytsia reported drones heading north and northeast.

• Dnipropetrovsk witnessed drone activity in northern and southeastern areas.

• Sumy saw drone groups approaching from the west and northwest.

• Chernihiv reported drones moving south and west, posing further threats.

Vinnytsia reported drones heading north and northeast.

Dnipropetrovsk witnessed drone activity in northern and southeastern areas.

The Ukrainian Air Force provided continuous updates on drone movements, tracking their courses toward major cities, including Kremenchuk, Sumy, and Kharkiv.

Authorities in affected areas mobilized rescue and recovery operations. In Kharkiv, emergency teams evacuated residents and extinguished fires caused by drone strikes. Hospitals treated those injured, and mental health professionals addressed trauma-related stress.

While many drone strikes targeted infrastructure, residential areas also bore the brunt of the attacks. Officials continue assessing damage and coordinating aid for affected residents.

Ukraine's government condemned Russia's latest escalation, calling for stronger international support and advanced air defense systems to counter future threats.
