Russia launches overnight Shahed drone attack across Ukraine

Ukraine’s Air Force reported heavy Russian reconnaissance and strike drone activity along frontline areas in Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhzhia oblasts. Throughout the evening and into the night, Russian drones were tracked over or toward Sumy, Chernihiv, Poltava, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Cherkasy, Kherson, and Kyiv oblasts, with several regional alerts issued and later lifted as the threat shifted.

The Air Force also warned several times of Russian tactical aviation activity on the northeastern and southeastern axes, including the threat of guided aerial bomb strikes on frontline regions. Guided bombs were reported launched toward Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts, while drone groups were seen changing direction repeatedly as they moved deeper into Ukrainian airspace.

Explosions were reported in Sumy during the attack. In Kyiv Oblast, Russian drones struck Brovary, damaging business buildings, private homes, and vehicles, according to the regional military administration.

Air raid sirens also sounded in Kyiv overnight as drones approached the capital from the direction of Brovary and later moved north and west of the city toward Zhytomyr Oblast. Alerts were repeatedly updated across central, northern, eastern, and southern Ukraine as the attack evolved.

The overnight assault was part of a broader wave of Russian aerial pressure involving both Shahed drones and tactical aviation, with Ukraine’s Air Force continuing to monitor threats into the early hours of March 22.
