Russia is withdrawing some of its troops from Ukraine due to the ongoing Ukrainian offensive in Russia's Kursk region, according to The Wall Street Journal on Aug. 13.

This redeployment marks the first indication that Ukraine’s advance in Kursk is forcing Moscow to take emergency measures. U.S. officials told WSJ that the White House is still assessing the significance of Russia’s actions and has not disclosed how many troops are being relocated.

The report suggests that the unexpected Ukrainian offensive in Kursk has partially diverted Russian forces away from Ukraine.

Dmytro Lykhoviy, a spokesperson for Ukraine's Tavria Operational and Strategic Group, told Politico that Russia has moved a "relatively small" number of units from Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions.

Meanwhile, WSJ reports that Ukrainian command has sent tanks and other armored vehicles to reinforce its troops advancing in the Kursk region.
