Russia plotted drone strikes with camouflaged bombs in EU countries

The publication cited sources close to the prosecutor’s office and the Internal Security Agency (ABW).

The investigation focused on the arrest of Vladyslav H., suspected of working for Russia’s GRU military intelligence.

Investigators said his handlers instructed him to take a shovel, dig up pre-placed canned goods at a cemetery — these cans, brought by Russian agents, were designed to be mounted on drones and were camouflaged as ordinary canned corn — and to leave them at a designated spot near Łódź.

“According to our version, Russian military intelligence, the GRU, was preparing terrorist attacks using drones and canned goods filled with powerful explosives instead of corn,” the outlet’s sources said.

Similar explosive cans were also found at a cemetery in Lithuania.

In addition, Vladyslav H. is suspected of transporting drone components and SIM cards between Poland, Lithuania, and Germany, the newspaper added. If all the charges are confirmed, he faces life imprisonment.

Prosecutors plan to complete the investigation by the end of the year.

On Sept. 22, Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna warned that Russian provocations “destabilize Europe” and bring the region “closer to conflict than in recent years.”
