Russian air defense missile hits oil tank at Moscow refinery, video shows

The video, captured by an eyewitness to the strike, recorded the moment immediately preceding the explosion of one of the reservoirs at the Moscow Oil Refinery.

Astra wrote that the explosion occurred right after the missile launch and subsequent impact on the facility. A vapor trail is also visible, allowing observers to determine the flight path of the missile.

The footage was captured from a residential building in the Novye Kotelniki neighborhood. The shot was likely fired from a Pantsir surface-to-air missile and anti-aircraft artillery system from a northeasterly direction, the outlet wrote.

Exilenova+ Telegram channel also published several videos, suggesting that a Russian air defense missile had struck the reservoir.

June 18 attack on Moscow

On the morning of June 18, a massive drone attack targeted the Russian capital. Large-scale fires and heavy smoke columns were observed in the city, particularly in the Kapotnya district near Moscow Oil Refinery.

This marks the second attack on the facility in the past two days.

On June 16, Moscow Oil Refinery was also attacked by Ukrainian drones. As noted by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the UAVs damaged the "heart of the plant" — a key primary oil refining unit.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the General Staff confirmed the follow-up strike on the refinery, located approximately 15 kilometers from the Kremlin. According to the military command, the attack caused large-scale fires in at least five hotspots within the facility, with oil refining units and the tank farm ablaze.

The processing capacity of the Moscow Oil Refinery exceeds 12 million tons of oil per year. The plant is actively involved in supplying the Russian army, the General Staff emphasized.

The June 18 attack on Moscow became one of the most successful missions utilizing Ukrainian drone-missiles, sources told NV.
