“Due to damage to the theater building caused by the overnight mass attack, we are forced to cancel today’s performance of the ballet Thumbelina,” the statement said. “The performance will be rescheduled to another date, which we will announce additionally in the near future.”
The National Art Museum of Ukraine in Kyiv also sustained serious damage during Russia’s overnight attack.
“The National Art Museum of Ukraine is a place where the history of Ukrainian art is preserved,” Deputy Prime Minister and Culture Minister Tetiana Berezhna said. “Russia is systematically attacking civilian infrastructure and cultural institutions. Every such strike is an attempt to intimidate and destroy our identity. We are documenting all damage and continuing work to restore our damaged cultural heritage.”
The museum’s collection and staff were not harmed.
The museum’s collection includes tens of thousands of works of Ukrainian art, ranging from icon painting and classical art to contemporary works.
