‘Welcome to the second day of school in Ukraine’: Russian attack damages Odesa lyceum

Information about the damage to the educational institution, along with photos of the destruction, was shared on the lyceum's Instagram page.

"Yesterday was the first day of school! Today, on the second day of classes, Lyceum No. 90 in Odesa suffered serious damage as a result of Russian airstrikes. Can someone please explain to the children why they can no longer go to their school?! Apparently, classrooms, school desks and children posed too great a threat to Russia. Welcome to the second day of school in Ukraine!" German teacher Markus Peuser wrote.

He also shared several photos and videos showing shattered windows, damaged walls, ceilings and desks, as well as overturned flowerpots.

Journalist and German teacher Karina Beigelzimer also shared photos of the lyceum's damaged classrooms.

"There are no words. Our Lyceum No. 90 after the Russian attack on Odesa," she captioned the photos.

She also said that all students from Class 11-V attended the lesson, although it was held online. "This is resilience," she added.

Russia launched a massive attack on Odesa overnight on Sept. 2. Eight people, including a child, were injured in the strikes. A 24-story residential building was damaged, while office buildings and two educational institutions in several districts were partially destroyed. Civilian and energy infrastructure facilities were targeted in the attack.
