Footage of the Shahed hitting the high-rise surfaced online, showing a fire breaking out in the building immediately after.
The Shahed that hit the 18-story building was flying at a low altitude, mayor Vitali Klitschko reported. Hits were recorded at several locations in the Podilskyi district, including high-rises, a private house, and a hotel, State Emergency Service (SES) noted.
Heavy smoke is also blanketing Kyiv due to large-scale fires following the nighttime attack. Rescuers later reported that they already extinguished the fires at all locations. Search and rescue operations are ongoing, as crews clear rubble and debris at two strike sites.
Online footage also showed debris from a downed missile lying in a residential courtyard.
The nighttime drone and missile strike killed four people in Kyiv, including a 12-year-old boy, according to the latest data from authorities and rescuers. 50+ people were injured, including medics and police officers who arrived to help.
Podilskyi and Obolonskyi districts suffered the most significant destruction.
