Russian invaders make gains in Donetsk and Kharkiv areas

The situation on the front in Donetsk Oblast

On Jan. 1, DeepState reported chaotic conditions in Novovasylivka near Pokrovsk, with both Russian and Ukrainian forces present in nearly every part of the village.

On Jan. 2, Viktor Trehubov, of the Khortytsia Military District, stated that Ukrainian troops controlled nearly all of Chasiv Yar.

On Jan. 3, DeepState noted Russian advances near five settlements, including the occupation of Dachenske, Nova Praca, and Vovkove in Donetsk.

On Jan. 6, DeepState reported Russian gains near Toretsk, Zelene, Petropavlivka, Vozdvyzhenka, Baranivka, and Pishchane in Donetsk.

On Jan. 8, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) said Russian forces advanced into northwest Toretsk, reaching its administrative border.

On Jan. 11, DeepState claimed Russian troops had fully captured Kurakhove, though Trehubov stated Ukrainian forces still held positions, disputing the claim.
