Russian forces have made gains in Sumy and Donetsk oblasts, the Ukrainian monitoring project DeepState reported on Feb. 24.

According to DeepState, Russian troops advanced in the village of Pokrovka in Sumy Oblast, as well as in Nykyforivka and Lypivka, both part of the Soledar urban community in Donetsk Oblast’s Bakhmut district, and near Platonivka, which belongs to the Siversk urban community in the same district.

On Feb. 21, Ukraine’s Eastern Group of Forces said the Defense Forces were holding designated positions and maintaining control of the situation despite increased Russian pressure toward the settlements of Riznykivka and Holubivka in Donetsk Oblast.

Earlier, on Feb. 9, the Eastern Group of Forces reported that Ukrainian troops controlled the northern part of Myrnohrad, with small-arms fighting ongoing in the city center.

Ukraine’s 7th Air Assault Corps said Russian forces had intensified efforts to encircle Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad in what Ukrainian troops described as “pincer” maneuvers. According to the military, Russian troops increased pressure from the direction of Kotlyne and Rodynske.
