Air defense units intercepted several of each type of missile and up to ten drones.
The KMVA reported that this was the first combined missile and drone strike on Kyiv in 73 days.
The air raid alert in the capital was issued at 6:30 a.m. due to the threat of drones approaching from the east. At that point, cruise missiles were already en route toward the region. Shortly after, as the missiles approached Kyiv, the Russian forces launched a simultaneous ballistic strike on the capital. The attack ended with a wave of drone strikes.
According to KMVA, the Russian assault on Kyiv lasted for more than two hours in total.
No reports of damage or casualties in Kyiv had been received at the time of publication. However, the air raid alert in Kyiv Oblast remained active due to the ongoing threat. KMVA also warned that the drones could change course and head toward the capital.
Earlier that morning, a large-scale air alert was declared across Ukraine. The Ukrainian Air Force said the alert was triggered by missile launches from Russian Tu-95MS bombers. Russia also launched Shahed drones, and explosions were heard in Kyiv.
