Moscow shatters Ukraine's declared 'regime of silence' with mass overnight barrage

The Russian forces launched Iskander-M missiles from Rostov Oblast and the Kh-31 from the airspace of Kursk Oblast. Furthermore, Russian troops deployed Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmaz strike UAVs, along with Parodiya decoy drones, from Bryansk, Kursk, and Millerovo in Russia, as well as temporarily occupied Donetsk and Hvardiiske in occupied Crimea.

The Russians violated the regime of silence, which negates the "truce" announced by Russian dictator Vladimir Putin for May 9, Defense Ministry advisor Serhiy Sternenko stated at 8:40 a.m.

He noted that the Russians carried out a series of attacks on Ukraine overnight:

• Two people were injured and seven private houses were damaged in Kharkiv.

• The occupiers attacked an industrial infrastructure facility in Zaporizhzhya Oblast.

• The Russians struck Kherson with a guided aerial bomb.

• Shahed drones attacked Kryvyi Rih, hitting an infrastructure facility.

Air defense shot down or suppressed 89 enemy UAVs in the north and east of the country as of 8 a.m.

At the same time, hits from two ballistic missiles, one guided aerial missile, and nine strike UAVs were recorded across eight locations, with falling debris from downed drones documented at one site.

Despite Ukraine declaring a regime of silence starting at midnight on May 6, Russia launched strike drones and guided aerial bombs at Ukraine this night. Air raid alerts were declared in several oblasts. Hits were reported in Zaporizhzhya and Kharkiv.

Russian strikes killed 27 people and injured 120+ more during the day on May 5, it was reported earlier.

The enemy cynically attacked civilian infrastructure, including city streets, grocery warehouses, high-rise buildings, post offices, State Emergency Service units, energy facilities, and railways, Ukrainian Internal Affairs Minister Ihor Klymenko reported. First responders and medics were targeted in Poltava and Kherson oblasts.

Russian Defense Ministry announced on the evening of May 4 that a "ceasefire is declared" for May 8 and May 9, and threatened massive strikes on Kyiv downtown if Ukraine tries to "disrupt the Victory Day celebrations." The Russians cynically stated that it supposedly "refrained" from striking central Kyiv "for humanitarian reasons" earlier.

Ukraine received no official requests for a ceasefire but is declaring a regime of silence from midnight on the night of May 5 to May 6, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported in response.

The head of state earlier said that Ukrainian drones could appear over the May 9 parade in Moscow.

The parade on Red Square in Moscow will take place without military equipment for the first time since 2022, featuring only a marching column. The number of guests will decrease to a few hundred people instead of the usual thousands, and the parade itself will last less than an hour.
