According to Russian media, during an emergency meeting, Gerasimov assured Putin that Russian troops had allegedly halted the "advance of Ukrainian forces" into Russian territory.
Gerasimov also pledged to Putin that the military operation would be concluded by "reaching the Russian state border."
He claimed that the group of "Ukrainian forces" allegedly attacking Russians in Kursk Oblast numbered around a thousand troops.
Fighting in Kursk Oblast: What we know
On Aug. 6, Russia's Defense Ministry announced ongoing combat in Kursk Oblast. The occupying forces also stated they were supposedly deploying additional reserves.
Russian propaganda outlets reported on the morning of Aug. 6 about an alleged Ukrainian Armed Forces incursion into the Sudzha district of Kursk Oblast. Local Kursk media reported the advance of three Ukrainian tanks with infantry toward the villages of Kurylovka and Goncharovka. Kursk regional authorities claimed that the "Ukrainian breakthrough" had been stopped.
The Ukrainian side has not officially commented on these events. An NV military intelligence source reported that Russian Volunteer Corps soldiers are not participating in the events along the Kursk Oblast border.
