Russian invaders launch missile attack on Kharkiv overnight

Invading Russian forces launched a missile attack on the city of Kharkiv overnight on Sept. 2, local mayor Ihor Terekhov said in a Telegram messenger post.

“There was a strike at the city’s Kholodnohirskyi District at night,” he said.

According to Terekhov, there were no casualties, but four cars were damaged as a result of the attack.

He added rescue teams would check the area adjacent to the scene in the morning.

Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, has come under regular attack from Russian forces since the beginning of its full-scale invasion over six months ago.

The Russians attack with artillery, including rockets with cluster bombs, and missiles fired from Russia’s neighboring Belgorod Oblast.

After the Russian invasion forces attempting to capture Kyiv were defeated and retreated from Kyiv, Chernihiv and Sumy oblasts, the Ukrainian army launched a counter-attack around Kharkiv that pushed some Russian forces out of artillery range of the city.

But while in some places Ukrainian forces managed to push the enemy back to Ukraine’s border with Russia, the invasion forces still remain in control of about half of the oblast.
