Nation8 October, 12:28 PM
Russian forces launched the swarms simultaneously across five distinct launch axes: Oryol, Kursk, and Shatalovo within Russia, alongside launch sites in occupied Donetsk and Hvardiiske in Russian-occupied Crimea.
As of 9:30 a.m., Ukrainian air defense and electronic warfare units successfully intercepted, shot down, or electronically jammed 126 enemy UAVs, including Shahed, Gerbera, and other unidentified drone types.
Despite extensive interceptions, direct munition impacts were confirmed across seven separate geographic locations nationwide, while falling wreckage from neutralized drones caused damage across four additional locations.
Rivne Oblast and Recent Drone Waves in Kyiv
Overnight into Oct. 8, Russian drones targeted Rivne Oblast in western Ukraine, damaging a civilian commercial enterprise and triggering a large structural blaze, Rivne Oblast Military Administration head Oleksandr Koval reported. Preliminary reports confirmed no human casualties.
The attack follows a deadly wave of jet drone strikes on the capital on Oct. 7. In Kyiv's Solomianskyi District, a drone strike ignited a blaze in a five-story residential building, while falling wreckage in Obolonskyi District set parked cars on fire in an apartment courtyard, killing two people and wounding 13 others. Later in the same barrage, an attack drone struck an apartment high-rise in Desnianskyi District, killing two people, injuring four others — including two children — and triggering partial structural collapses.
On the morning of Oct. 8, Russian forces launched another wave of jet drones targeting Kyiv, with intercepted debris falling in Holosiivskyi District.
