Three train stations in Russia’s Kursk Oblast — Sudzha, Psel, and Korenevo — have been temporarily closed to passengers, according to a statement from the Moscow Railway on Aug. 8.

The railway reported that passengers can return tickets without additional fees for travel to and from Kursk, Ryzhkov, Kurchatov, and Lgov-Kyivskyi stations. Train services at other stations are continuing as usual.

The Moscow Railway also noted that it is conducting “additional inspections of infrastructure and staff briefings.”

What we know about the fighting in Kursk Oblast

On Aug. 6, Russian media claimed that Ukrainian forces had entered the Sudzha district of Kursk Oblast. Local reports mentioned the movement of three Ukrainian tanks with infantry towards the villages of Kurylivka and Honcharivka. Kursk Oblast authorities said they had halted the “Ukrainian breakthrough.”

Later, Russia’s Ministry of Defense confirmed the fighting in the region. Russian Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov stated that Ukraine had entered with about 1,000 troops, using Western Stryker armored vehicles, tanks, drones, air defense systems, and electronic warfare equipment.

The Ukrainian government has not officially commented on these events. An NV source in military intelligence said the Russian Volunteer Corps is not involved in the fighting at the Kursk Oblast border.

U.S. officials claim they had no prior knowledge of Ukraine’s plans to enter Kursk Oblast, but this does not conflict with U.S. policy.
