Nine killed as Russian missiles hit five Kyiv districts overnight

Nine people were killed and 28 injured in a massive Russian missile attack on Kyiv overnight on July 31-Aug. 1, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.

Seventeen of the injured remain hospitalized.

A police officer was among those killed, while four children ages 13, 14 and 17 were among the injured, Ukraine’s National Police said.

Fires and damage were reported across five districts of the capital, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said.

In the Solomianskyi district, two people were killed and eight injured, including two children.

A five-story residential building was partially destroyed and caught fire at one location, while vehicles burned in a parking lot elsewhere in the district.

Three people were hospitalized. Rescue workers evacuated 35 residents from the building’s upper floors and extinguished the fire.

Seven people were killed and 14 injured in the Darnytskyi district, including two children.

The attack caused fires and damage at administrative and nonresidential buildings and damaged vehicles and apartment buildings. Emergency crews extinguished the fires.

A crater was also found in a park, while vegetation along one street caught fire.

In the Shevchenkivskyi district, a fire broke out in a nonresidential building and several ambulances caught fire. Emergency workers extinguished the blaze.

One injured person was found at another location in the district. A fire also broke out on the grounds of a film studio and was brought under control.

A store was damaged in the Dniprovskyi district.

Four private homes and several outbuildings were damaged in the Pecherskyi district.

Emergency crews rescued 105 people across Kyiv, the State Emergency Service said.
