Russian missiles destroy warehouse housing artwork by Chinese artist Ai Weiwei

The incident occurred on July 19 during a large-scale Russian ballistic missile attack on Kyiv and surrounding Oblast.

"The warehouse where the work 'Three Perfectly Proportioned Spheres and Military Camouflage Painted White' was stored, located in the Bucha district on the outskirts of Kyiv, was struck by two ballistic missiles on the morning of July 19," Ai Weiwei wrote.

He also shared photos of the artwork and the destroyed warehouse.

The installation was first presented in Kyiv in September last year at Pavilion 13 of the VDNG exhibition center. Ai Weiwei previously described the work as "a dialogue about war and peace, rationality and irrationality" and as his response to escalating conflicts in the modern world. The work was commissioned by the RIBBON International foundation. It remained on display until the end of fall 2025 and was apparently later moved to the warehouse.

In August last year, Ai Weiwei visited Kharkiv and traveled to combat positions of the Khartiia Brigade.
