Russian paratroopers shot four soldiers from the Don Cossack brigade during a rotation in the area of Pokrovka on the Kinburn Spit, temporarily occupied by Russian troops, the partisan movement Atesh reported on June 22.

Partisans report that the 337th Airborne Assault Regiment of the Russian Federation is replacing the depleted Don brigade near the village of Pokrovka in Mykolaiv Oblast. During the rotation, a conflict erupted between the occupiers, resulting in paratroopers shooting and killing four members of the “Cossacks” group.

“They threw their bodies into the sea. The fate of the remaining Don brigade members is unclear — they are likely being withdrawn from the front or gradually disbanded due to the complete loss of combat capability,” Atesh, the partisan group, stated.

The partisans noted that the 337th regiment had previously fought against Ukrainian defenders on the Kinburn Spit at the end of 2023. The regiment suffered heavy losses due to a lack of air and artillery support, as well as poor training. The unit was quickly reinforced with inexperienced recruits.

“Now these same soldiers are returning — exhausted, insecure, and demoralized,” the partisans added.

The Kinburn Spit, located in Mykolaiv district of Mykolaiv Oblast, lies 4 to 7.5 kilometers from Ochakov. It is an extension of the Kinburn Peninsula and partially separates the Black Sea from the Dnieper-Bug Estuary.

Russian invaders occupied the spit in March 2022, establishing positions there despite its status as a reserve and an important natural resource. The Kinburn Spit remains the only part of Mykolaiv Oblast under Russian control.
