Kyiv hit by Russian strike, damage reported at 13 locations

A Russian overnight attack with ballistic missiles and drones damaged 13 sites across four districts in Kyiv, city military administration head Tymur Tkachenko said on Apr. 16.

The Podilskyi and Obolonskyi districts of the capital were hit the hardest, where warehouse buildings burned down and residential buildings and cars were damaged.

Four people were killed in the attack, including a 12-year-old child. The number of injured has risen to 60, according to the Kyiv city military administration. Thirty of the wounded are hospitalized.

Powerful explosions were heard in Kyiv overnight, with reports of several drone and missile attacks. In the Podilskyi district, a Shahed drone hit a multi-story residential building. At another location, a 12-year-old boy and a woman were killed in a private house. In Obolon, a strike hit a car dealership, where two security guards were killed.

Among the dozens injured in Kyiv were medics and police officers who came under a second Russian strike after responding to a call in Obolon.

Emergency services said all fires in the capital had been extinguished, while recovery operations are ongoing.

Over the past day, Russia carried out two waves of combined attacks on Ukraine using 659 drones and 44 missiles. Ukraine’s air defenses shot down 31 missiles and 636 drones. Most of the 19 ballistic missiles were aimed at Kyiv.
