Russian troops advanced near four settlements in Ukraine’s Donetsk Oblast, according to the DeepState project data released on May 28.

The occupiers advanced near Troitsk, in Malynivka along the Pokrovka direction, and near Yablunivka and Staraya Mykolaivka in the Toretsk direction.

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported 216 clashes across the front in the past 24 hours. The largest number occurred near Pokrovka, where Ukrainian forces repelled 65 assault attempts by the occupiers.

On May 24, analysts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported that Russian occupation forces had significantly expanded their advance southwest of Kostiantynivka in Donetsk Oblast, particularly near Toretsk.

On May 25, ISW suggested that Russian invaders had eliminated the “pocket” near Toretsk and leveled the front in preparation for an attack on Kostiantynivka. The occupiers could capture Staraya Mykolaivka and Hnativka.

On May 27, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the Ukrainian Armed Forces had pushed Russian forces back by 4 kilometers in the Kostiantynivka area along the Pokrovsk direction in recent days. Zelenskyy added that the occupiers were trying to cross into Dnipropetrovsk Oblast but had so far failed.
