Russians have turned the temporarily occupied Kinburn Spit into a war zone, sparking fires in the reserve, Ukrainian Navy spokesman Dmytro Pletenchuk said on Sept. 19.
Russian troops have set up positions on the Kinburn Spit, a nature reserve and crucial natural resource, and fire periodically from there, according to Ukrainian Navy spokesman Dmytro Pletenchuk.
He said the southern Mykolaiv Щидфіе, Dnieper-Buzka estuary, and Kherson Oblast face heavy shelling, turning the Kinburn Spit into a war zone.
This has led to fires and forest fires due to ongoing combat.
Pletenchuk warned that the Russians use the spit to target ships and cities like Mykolaiv.
The area was occupied by Russian troops in March 2022 and remains under their control.
