Russians continue assault on Severodonetsk, carry out airstrike on Lysychansk – regional governor

Russian invasion forces are continuing to assault Severodonetsk, and much destruction is reported in the Hirske community, according to the head of the Luhansk Oblast Military Administration Serhiy Hayday, who announced this on Telegram.

The regional governor says there is street fighting in Severodonetsk, but the Armed Forces of Ukraine are holding the line.

The enemy launched an airstrike on the civilian infrastructure in neighboring Lysychansk. The occupiers also fired at a bakery in the city, which until the last moment had been baking bread for local residents.

“In addition to the bakery, several government buildings and two high-rise buildings were damaged,” Hayday said.

“During enemy shelling of Pryvillya, a local resident was injured. The police took her to the hospital. There is more serious destruction in the Hirske community. That is 16 houses in Zolote, three in Hirske. Also, six houses were destroyed in Vrubivka.”

After enemy shelling, civilian infrastructure near Metelkino, Borovske, Ustynivka and Toshkivka was also damaged. Mortars, artillery and rockets were used to fire at Zolote, Horikhove, Hirske, and Vrubivka.

The invaders conducted assault operations near the settlements of Bilohorivka and Mykolayivka. The enemy suffered significant losses in manpower and equipment, Hayday said.

Earlier, Hayday stated that the Ukrainian military had cleared half of Severodonetsk of Russian troops and assumed control of it. But he said that in the near future, the invaders may throw all of their the equipment and reserves into the battle to capture the city, which they have been ordered to achieve by June 10.

About 15,000 local residents remain in the city, but evacuation is impossible due to constant fighting.

According to the Office of the President, Severodonetsk is one of the cities in Donbas that was completely destroyed by the Russian invaders.
