Ukraine’s SBU security service has detained a Ukrainian businessman who had been acting as a Russian intelligence agent in Sumy Oblast, the service said in a Twitter post on Sep. 1.

The collaborator was providing Russian security services with data on movements and composition of Ukrainian military units in the area.

“The businessman was recruited by Russian security services during one of his business trips to Russia,” SBU said.

“The perpetrator agreed to do clandestine work for the enemy, given his pro-Russia views. After Moscow launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the agent began regularly supplying his handlers with intelligence.”

Several mobile phones with evidence of intelligence gathering and 500 grams of explosives were found during a search of the suspect’s home.
